The Cypress Creek Orchestra and Guitar program offers students a dynamic, performance‑centered musical experience where technical skill, ensemble collaboration, and artistic expression come together. Students develop strong musicianship through focused instruction in technique, tone, music literacy, and stylistic interpretation while performing a wide range of repertoire—from classical works and contemporary pieces to culturally diverse ensemble literature. Whether playing violin, viola, cello, bass, or guitar, students learn to rehearse with discipline, perform with confidence, and contribute meaningfully to a unified group sound. Through concerts, community performances, and adjudicated events, the program empowers young musicians to grow as skilled performers and creative, committed members of the Conservatory of Arts.
Orchestra 1 - Start Your Musical Journey Here
Beginning Orchestra at Cypress Creek High School promises to be an enriching experience for novice and experienced musicians, welcoming 9th through 12th-grade students. As a full-string orchestra, we offer violin, viola, cello, and bass instruction. Throughout the academic year, we present two showcase concerts—one in the winter and one in the spring—featuring a diverse range of music genres, from classical masterpieces to contemporary pieces. In Orchestra 1, students hone their instrumental skills and delve into the foundations of music theory and history, fostering a well-rounded musical proficiency.
The curriculum accommodates all skill levels by gradually increasing the difficulty of the pieces played and the information learned as the year progresses. We believe music is about playing an instrument, personal growth, and skill development. Whether a beginner or an experienced musician, Orchestra 1 offers a supportive and stimulating environment for students to explore and expand their musical abilities. Students are required to bring their chosen instrument, a pencil, binder, rosin, sheet protectors, and either a shoulder rest or rock stop.
Orchestra 2-4
Intermediate/Advanced Orchestra at Cypress Creek High School offers a rich musical journey tailored for experienced students. Available for 9th through 12th graders, these orchestras provide a path for those who have mastered their skills or completed Orchestra 1. If the student hasn’t taken Orchestra 1, these courses are still available through a placement test.
These advanced classes build upon the musical information learned in Orchestra 1 and introduce more difficult pieces to help students grow as musicians. Orchestra 2, 3, or 4 present four concerts throughout the school year. Additionally, students can participate in district, regional, and state-level competitions, creating a spirit of healthy competition within the orchestra. Furthermore, students can participate in various competitive opportunities within the ensemble, such as auditioning for solos, competing for section leadership roles, or participating in ensemble challenges. These experiences encourage students to push themselves and excel within the orchestra. Materials needed are the student’s chosen instrument, a pencil, binder, rosin, sheet protectors, and a shoulder rest/rock stop.
Orchestra 5 (Honors) & Orchestra 6 (Honors)
The Advanced Orchestra at Cypress Creek High School offers a comprehensive musical experience designed for skilled students. Open to 11th and 12th graders, this orchestra caters to those who have honed their abilities or completed Orchestra 3. For students who haven’t taken Orchestra 3, entry is still possible through a placement test. These advanced courses build on the knowledge from Orchestra 3 and introduce more challenging pieces to foster musical growth. Additionally, the class includes supplemental instruction on music history and music theory, enriching students’ understanding of the broader musical context.
Orchestra 5 Honors and Orchestra 6 Honors perform four concerts annually. Students also have the opportunity to compete at district, regional, and state levels, promoting a healthy competitive spirit. Within the ensemble, students can audition for solos, vie for section leadership roles, and participate in ensemble challenges, encouraging them to strive for excellence. Required materials include the student’s chosen instrument, a pencil, binder, rosin, sheet protectors, and a shoulder rest or rock stop.

Guitar 1 & 2
The classical guitar program at our school is an opportunity that opens doors to a world of music for students in grades 9 through 12, regardless of prior experience.
Throughout the year, the classical guitar program presents winter and spring concerts. These performances not only showcase the talent and dedication of our students but also provide valuable experience in performing for an audience. One of the unique aspects of the classical guitar program is its versatility. While focusing on classical guitar techniques, fundamental skills that can be applied across various guitar styles, including acoustic, electric, and bass, are taught. The classical guitar ensemble explores diverse music genres, including Christmas/winter-themed pieces, folk tunes, classical compositions, pop songs, and more. Students will need a personal guitar, pencil, and a binder/folder to keep music organized. A footrest/stool and pick are also required.
Guitar 3 & Guitar 4 (Honors)
Intermediate guitar offers classical style instruction with a focus on the skills necessary for long-term success. Fundamentals stressed include ensemble skills, chords and rhythm, and training in music literacy. Students of any grade level are welcome.
The following pre-requisite are required to take this course: Fluent music reading (traditional notation / sheet music / sight reading, TABS, AND chord charts), AND successful completion of either High School Guitar 1 / Middle School Exploratory Guitar OR current private lessons of 1 year or more where the student has reached the required music reading fluency prior to entering Intermediate Guitar.
This class is designed to support musicians expand student’s guitar knowledge and expertise through ensemble-based playing.
