EKG Screenings

Florida Statute 1006.20 requires that the following student athletes must complete at least one electrocardiogram (EKG) screening for athletic participation:

  • All incoming 9th-grade student-athletes
  • Students in grades 10–12 who have never participated in an FHSAA-sanctioned sport
  • Any student who transfers to Pasco County Schools and participates in an FHSAA-sanctioned sport
  • Returning athletes are not required to obtain an EKG, but it is strongly encouraged.

An EKG performed on or after July 1, 2024 will satisfy this requirement.

Linked here is a one-page flyer with information regarding this requirement that you can share with parents or staff if it is helpful. All Athletic Directors received this information and a proposed plan of action during the January 13th AD meeting as well.

We have partnered with a company called “Who We Play For” to assist us by offering this service at $20 per athlete. They will be available to host screenings on your campus in March and again this Summer. Please use this designated link to select the date and time in March you would like to host. After a date is confirmed, “Who We Play For” will provide a school‑specific flyer containing instructions for families to register. Families may select any available screening location; they are not required to attend a site within their school’s feeder pattern so this information will also be shared through district social media and direct communication with families.
