Legislative Updates-Marching Band Credit Substitution

HB 1105 also expands credit substitution options for high school students participating in Marching Band:

Graduation Requirements:

• 1 credit in Physical Education(including health integration, typically HOPE)
• 1 credit in Fine or Performing Arts

Approved Waiver Options:

• Interscholastic Sports:2 full seasons waive the HOPE requirement
• O.T.C.:2 full years waive both PE and Performing Arts credits
• Marching Band:
• 2 full yearswaive either 1 credit in PE or Performing Arts
• 1 semesterwith a grade of “C” or better in a marching band class or related physical activity/dance class satisfies ½ credit in PE or Performing Arts

Note: These substitutions do not apply to the personal fitness requirement or the requirement for adaptive physical education for students with an IEP or 504 plan.
